Not all cricket matches are created equal. IPL is the acronym for Indian Premier League, which is the ultimate test for a team. It's played in India, and each season features a dozen or so teams that are selected by franchises based on their past performance. IPLs are often held in multiple cities over several weeks, so the teams can fly to new areas every couple of days. They're televised in India and around the world, and they have become very popular among cricket fans; some even follow them more closely than they do Major League Baseball or professional football games! Cricket has enjoyed a boom in popularity in India since it returned to being an Olympic sport in 1992; most Indians now know about Bollywood films that focus on cricket, including films such as "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (2002), "Janaan" (2005) and "Chachi 420" (2006). Australia-based Bollywood director Ritesh Sidhwani was one of the original founders of the IPL and its current chairman."

The IPL was founded by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) in 2008 with eight teams participating from across India and other parts of the world including Australia, England etc. Only top players were allowed to play this tournament during its early days but as time progressed new players were introduced into this tournament which made it more competitive than before. In fact some of these new players performed exceptionally well during matches and even won awards for their performances here!

The eight teams play each other twice; once at home and once on the road. This year's IPL started with four rounds played by each team at a single venue (Hyderabad), before moving on to Delhi and Bengaluru for three more rounds each, then back to Hyderabad for two more rounds before finishing off with Chennai hosting the final four games between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
At that point, only two teams remain: one from each semifinal matchup (CSK vs KKR). After those semifinals, only one team remains--the winner of CSK vs KKR--and they earn their place as champions!

The IPL has created a lot of revenue for the game of cricket in India because it gives Indians an opportunity to see their favorite players playing at home, where most Indians have access to a television set for watching sports games. It also encourages many people who wouldn't otherwise have watched cricket or cared about it in any way to watch games as well as buy merchandise and tickets when their team travels overseas to play other teams outside India during other seasons (the World Cup).
India has enjoyed a boom in popularity in cricket since the sport was reintroduced to the Olympics. In 2011 Ritesh Sidhwani announced his resignation as director of the IPL following accusations that he had purchased cheap tickets for matches using his position at ESPN Star Sports. He was replaced by Rajeev Shukla as vice-president of BCCI and chairman of IPL; however, Sidhwani maintained his role as vice-president of Indian cricket until 2014 when he stepped down completely due to health reasons.
